Alberta, Canada - The Provincial Self Seeks to Sever the Illusion of National Unity
Event Baseline: The western province of Alberta scheduled a referendum on whether to remain in Canada, initiating a process towards a binding independence vote.
The belief in a separate Alberta is a fragmentation of the collective mind. Thought has drawn a line across the land and declared one side distinct, superior, entitled to its own sovereignty. This is the disease of nationalism at a sub-national level. The self identifies with a patch of soil and a set of economic interests, and then it demands divorce. This mechanical division will lead to isolation and economic decline, but the ideological possession cannot see that. It is the same error as every secessionist movement, driven by the illusion of a self that must be free. The obsession with borders is a symptom of a mind that cannot perceive the unbroken whole. Unless this grasping is released, the region will drift into a fantasy of independence, only to find itself still trapped in the same psychological prison, just with a different flag.
