[Haiti / Vigilante Groups] - The Protective Self Becomes the Predator It Fights, Proving the Illusion of Security Through Armed Violence

Event Baseline: Civilian 'self-defense brigades' in Haiti, originally formed to combat gang violence, are now seen as an obstacle to peace by U.S.-backed and U.N.-authorized forces attempting to restore security.

The group identifies itself as the protector, the righteous force against chaos. It forms to kill the other, believing that ending certain bodies will bring safety. But the act of killing creates a new other. The boundary between the brigades and the gangs dissolves; both are armed factions driven by the same illusion of a separate self that must defend its territory. The violence does not end; it only changes uniforms.

The thought-created division between 'us' and 'them' is a virus. The self cannot solve the problem of violence because the self is the problem. Every attempt to impose order through force fragments the whole further. The brigades were born from fear, and fear is the child of the illusion of isolation. Until the self sees that it is not separate from the enemy, the shooting will continue, and the island will rot in its own blood.
