[Global / Public Health] - The Indifferent Self Poisons the Shared Atmosphere, Proving the Illusion of Separate Survival Through Second-Hand Smoke

Event Baseline: A Lancet study found that second-hand smoke caused nearly 1.7 million deaths worldwide in 2023. More than 2.7 billion people, including 767 million children, were exposed to tobacco smoke from others.

The smoker believes his habit is private. He inhales the toxin and exhales it into the air that others must breathe. The self imagines a boundary around its body that the smoke does not respect. Millions die because one person's craving outweighs another's right to clean air. This is the illusion of separate survival. The pleasure of the moment is prioritized over the life of the child next door. The addictive self cannot see that every puff is an act of violence against the collective body. It is the same logic as the polluter who dumps waste into the river. The self says 'my body, my choice' while the other's body absorbs the consequence. There is no private act. The atmosphere is a single lung shared by all. Until the smoker sees that the air he poisons is the same air he breathes, the cycle of slow murder will continue. The belief in an isolated self is the deadliest drug.
