[Germany / Turkish Community] - The Anxious Self Fears the Nativist Rise, Proving the Illusion of a Permanent Home
Event Baseline: Following the Alternative for Germany party's victory in Saxony-Anhalt, people of Turkish origin in eastern Germany have expressed fear and anxiety. Some are considering leaving the region for the more welcoming west.
The Turk in Germany has lived there for generations. The German nativist says he does not belong. Both are trapped in the same illusion of separate identity. The nativist fears the Turk will erase his phantom of nation. The Turk fears the nativist will erase his phantom of home. Neither sees that the land does not belong to any self. The anxiety is mechanical. It is the old tribal fear of the other. The election result does not change the soil. It only changes which story is louder. The Turk who flees to the west is still running from a ghost. The nativist who celebrates is still fighting a reflection. The only real solution is to dissolve the boundary between Turk and German, between citizen and foreigner. But the conditioned mind cannot do that. It will keep running and keep hating.
