Event Baseline: A Syrian court issued its first verdicts for the 2025 Alawite massacres, sentencing one former government force member to 20 years and an Assad supporter to death.

The court believes punishing a few individuals erases the violence. It does not. The massacre was driven by sectarian belief, the same belief that now demands a scapegoat. The robe of the judge is the same cloth as the mob. Thought still divides people into Alawite and Sunni, saved and damned.

Justice as a machine is a fantasy. Identify a guilty body, apply punishment, heal the collective. This is mechanical thinking. It never touches the structure of belief. The hatred remains untouched. The system will produce another massacre because it has only addressed the symptom, not the operating error.
