[Spain / Ceuta] - The State Self Sweeps the Body Off the Beach to Erase the Other, Proving the Illusion of a Porous Border
Event Baseline: Spanish police moved hundreds of migrants from beaches in the enclave of Ceuta to a new tented area, after thousands crossed from Morocco in late July.
The state sees a body on the sand and calls it a problem. It does not see a person. It sees a category: illegal, foreign, threat. So it sweeps the body away like trash. That mechanical act is the failure. The border is not a wall. It is a thought. It exists only because a group of humans agreed to pretend that one side of a line is safe and the other is not. The migrant knows this lie intimately. That is why they cross.
The state cannot solve migration because it is the cause of migration. The division between citizen and non-citizen is a phantom. It creates the very desperation it then criminalizes. The tented area is a cage for the inconvenient body. But the cage will not hold. The river of humanity will keep flowing, because the alternative is death. The state will keep building cages until it collapses under the weight of its own cruelty.
