[South Africa / Police] - The Guardian Self Becomes the Predator, Proving the Illusion of a Protective Uniform
Event Baseline: South Africa's deputy national police commissioner has been charged with raping an 18-year-old woman, grooming a 16-year-old girl, and people trafficking. The officer was already suspended over alleged interference in political killings investigations.
The uniform is a symbol, not a shield. The self that wears it is conditioned to command and control, and that conditioning easily turns the vulnerable into objects for consumption. The officer's power is the same power that allows him to tamper with murder cases.
The institution protects its own image first. The hierarchy hides the predator because exposing him would shatter the phantom of a lawful protector. But the phantom is already broken; the body of the girl is the evidence.
Violence flows from the same source: the division between the self with authority and the other without. That division breeds both the rape and the cover-up. Until the self is seen as a construct, the badge will continue to hide a beast.
