[Congo / Goma] - The Tribal Self Overruns the Safe Haven to Feed a Phantom of Victory
Event Baseline: Rwanda-backed rebels entered Goma, a city in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo that was sheltering over one million displaced people. Gunfire and shelling were reported as Congolese troops were overrun.
The border is a line drawn in blood. The rebels march under the flag of one tribe, the soldiers defend another. Neither sees the million displaced humans caught between them. They see only territory, only the phantom of a pure nation. The self has expanded to include the tribe, and so the tribe must kill to survive.
The illusion of the 'other' is total. The rebels believe they are liberating, the government believes it is defending. Both are mechanical reactions to a story about who belongs where. That story is thought. Thought has divided the land into 'us' and 'them'. And so the land burns, and the displaced stream nowhere.
Goma was a safe haven, but no place is safe when the mind is at war with itself. The collapse of shared meaning is complete. There is no dialogue, only gunfire. The only resolution is the end of tribal identity, but the tribe will never let go. So the cycle repeats: invasion, displacement, death. The operating system has no exit condition except annihilation.
